What is MyAIDSNexus? MyAIDSNexus aims to bring the flexibility and power of social networking sites (like Facebook or LinkedIn) to the HIV & AIDS sector. MyAIDSNexus provides free, open and anonymous access to most of the content it houses.
What makes MyAIDSNexus unique? Some of the key features include:
Interactive profiles for individuals and groups
Customizable discussion groups (they can include pictures and polls)
Micro-sites (mini web-sites) for community-based organizations without a web presence
Applications (such as job listings, videos, directories) that you can include on your own website
Jobs, events and funding opportunities
Who runs MyAIDSNexus? MyAIDSNexus is the new site from AIDSPortal. AIDSPortal is a global initiative that aims to facilitate greater knowledge sharing and networking among organisations involved in the response to HIV and AIDS. We are managed by the UK Consortium on AIDS and International Development.
How was MyAIDSNexus developed? The site is the result of many conversations with our partners. MyAIDSNexus is the first site built on the new Nexus platform.
What's next? MyAIDSNexus is s global site and is aimed primarily at people in countries where we do not have AIDSPortal partners. In addition to showcasing some new features, it also provides an example of what is possible in other Nexus sites. We will be working closely with our partners over the next year to create regional or thematic Nexus sites. These sites will have their own distinct name and branding, but can use the same features and content if wanted. We are also working on a way for users to manage the same profiles across different sites and we will be introducing mobile phone functionality, such as SMS, to extend the reach of information.
What is your vision? Our vision is a more efficient and effective response to HIV and AIDS. We work through this vision through two strategies.
Building the capacity of partner organsiations that share our vision. These are typically networks operating at a national, regional or global level. We currently have regional partnerships in Eastern and Southern Africa and Latin America.
Maintaining an information hub and acting as an information facilitator in areas where we do not yet have partnerships.
